Heh, I don't update very much do I? Well nothing exciting has happened in my life except more work and classes and work and some sleep with lots and lots of procrastination in between. I have an insatiable apetite for random facts, especially if they don't amount to much. Here's some new things I've learned.
From wikipedia:
"Space opera" is trashy science fiction about romantic aventures in space; your run of the mill aliens eating people's brains and holding a damsel in captivety ultimately defeated by a superhero macho-man who then proceeds to save to the beautifully distressed damsel and together they fly off to happinesss in a silver spaceship...and all that
"Geek rock" is a genre of alternative rock characterized by "geeky" subjects in the lyrics (i.e. videogames, science fiction, being lonely, failing relationships), and often the performers have a "geeky" look
~~I've noticed that almost all of the "geek rock" artists listed on wikipedia wears dark plastic thick-framed glasses. Interestingly, everyone else seems to be wearing them these days, and I have a feeling geek rock made the glasses popular. Now wouldn't that be ironic?
"Nerdcore" is the geek rock equivalent of hip hop, described by one nerdcore artist as "instead of worrying about how cool you are, you kind of just nerd it out"
In high school one of my friends said he was "nerd-cool." I was rather confused by his statement then, but now that I've learned about nerdcore and geek rock, it totally makes sense. You know...just nerd it out until you're cool (or at least pretend that you are).
But, I've always wondered, what if you're not "cool" enough to be cool, but also not "nerdy" enough to be cool either? Does that make you the nerd of all nerds? A geek among...geeks? How sad, to be stuck in the middle.
The Australian Green Tree Frog secretes antibacterial and antiviral stuff from its skin...it is also very cute
Sooo, instead of using Purell, I'll just carry a pet tree frog in my pocket :) I'll name him Kermit the Hand Sanitizer. And maybe I'll also get a Kermit the Dishwasher; he'll jump on the dishes and make them sparkly clean. :D
Interesting quote regarding cosplaying, the act of dressing up as your favorite anime character (and usually to attend cosplay conventions)
"An issue with cosplaying anime and manga characters is that these characters generally do not have bodily proportions that can easily be mimicked by many typical cosplayers (e.g. incredibly long legs, huge muscles or giant breasts), and there is debate among fans about how important or not this element is when cosplaying."
~~Hmm...I like my Himoura Kenshins not-skinny and with a real male voice thank you very much (the long orange hair and pink kimono is OK)
Heh, all wikipedia findings this time, but there will be others, I promise.
And I lied about only working and procrastinating. Sometimes I get to hang out with old pals like Maria on the weekends and that makes my life so much better. :)
