It's weird that while I prefer to use my right hand to do most things (and it is definitely more nimble), I prefer to use my left hand to maintain balance and steer when I bike one-handed (and slurping iced coffee held in the other hand). I guess it's not surprising that if I have to stand on one foot, I prefer to stand on my left. Hmm... perhaps the halves of the brain specialize in either fine motor control or balance. Makes sense, because if say I were a monkey and had to pick fruit from a tree, I would use one side of my body to hold onto or balance on a branch while the other side does the picking. What a fun thing to realize! I am sure there are studies supporting this hypothesis. Perhaps I have even learned it in class, but have totally forgotten about it. You see, all they had to do was say "pretend you are a monkey" and I'd surely remember. :)

Hm... I didn't realize I'd already commented, but what I was going to say is that, although I'm right-handed for writing and stuff like that, I preferred to lead with my left leg for hurdles (and that was my dominant leg in dance as well).
