Ah when I get interested in things I get obsessed with them! The recent surge of enthusiasm for dance brought about by news of AADT's two sold out shows this weekend has prompted me to spend the past several hours surfing youtube. Here is something I found and absolutely loved:

You know you've come across a piece of good choreography when the poses are all perfect, the movements match the ups and downs of the music just right, the transitions between phrases unique and interesting. Little choreographic shortcuts are made such as using filler-type movements that have been used and worn out by others. There is also little recycling of material through the piece, although if something is reused it's always reused in a different way. Overall it seems that every detail has been thought out and researched so that these two dancers really do resemble the images painted centuries ago on the walls of the Dunhuang grottos (yay Silk Road!). Although the synchrony could have been better, the dancing itself was also quite excellent.

Where is the AADT equivalent around here? They are so mysterious!
